2017 AP Testing Information
2017 AP Testing Information
Posted on 03/13/2017
Dear AP Student and Parent/Guardian,

The purpose of this letter is to share important information regarding the Advanced Placement Exams that will be administered in May.

General AP Information
Recently, AP students received a copy of the 2016-2017 Bulletin for AP Students & Parents. This Bulletin provides valuable information about the Advanced Placement program and the upcoming 2017 AP Exam schedule.

In May, students will be given the opportunity to take  AP exams in the Green Bay Area Public School District. These exams provide students with a world-wide standardized measure of what they have accomplished in the AP classroom. Taking an AP exam allows students an opportunity to experience a college level exam while still in high school. Scoring well may provide students with college credit which opens more options in college, such as upper level courses, double majors, or time for study abroad.

Registration and Fees
For the 2017 AP exams, students in the Green Bay Area Public School District  will be registering online through a company called Total Registration. Registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with Internet access at https://www.totalregistration.net/. During the registration process, students will also be required to select a time for a Preadministration Session. Sessions will be held the week of April 17th and will allow students to fill out necessary paperwork prior to testing. This will allow us to offer a later start time, ensuring all students are well rested and less stressed on the day of the exam as well as adding ample time between exams. The preadministration session for East High School students will be during their lunch period on on April 17th in room 309.  A make-up session will be available after school at the district office in case of any scheduling conflicts.

The fee for each AP exam is $100. Students on free or reduced lunch will have their fee waived by applying for the waiver when they register. Total Registration offers families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration.

The registration timeline is set up in two tiers, with costs increasing beyond tier 1.

Tier 1:  February 6, 7:00 AM -March 17, 2017, 11:59 PM -- Regular registration ($100 per exam)
Tier 2:  March 18-March 24 -- Late registration ($125 per exam)

In order to register, click on the link provided on the school website or go to www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/500790 . All of the required questions must be answered in order to complete the registration process. Registration is not complete until you print a pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end of registration. Some parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.

Students should register for all exams in which they are interested, regardless of when the exams are administered. Make-up exam opportunities will be available to students in cases of conflicting examination times.

Preparation
Student preparation for  an AP exam correlates to greater success.  Reviewing and studying a year’s worth of material is a different skill than studying for unit tests.  Teachers of individual courses can provide strategies for students to utilize in preparing for the exam.

Testing Start Times
AP exams will be given at UW-Green Bay as well as the Brown County Central Library this year. All exams must start at the designated time set by  the College Board; therefore, students will need to be at the designated room by 7:30 AM for the morning test and by 11:45 AM for the afternoon test. If a student arrives after the exam begins, they will not be allowed to take the exam.

Missed Exams
Any student who chooses to "SKIP" an AP exam for which they are registered will be charged the fee assessed by the College Board to the Green Bay schools for returned unused exams ($15) .  Students who miss an exam because of an excused absence (e.g., illness) will be scheduled for a make-up exam at no additional cost.
