Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read, September 26-October 2

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.  Observed since 1982, this annual library event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.

Is there a teacher, monitor, or other staff member you’d like to show your appreciation for. Every school year East’s National Honors Society runs it's Guardian Angel program where each member chooses an East staff member to show their appreciation for. This year the Guardian Angel program will be open to all students who are interested. So if you have someone in mind, hurry and see Mr. Garay in room 110 or Mrs. McGrath in room 234 to learn the rules and claim your staff member.

As we begin our day, we acknowledge and honor the original inhabitants of our various nations of Wisconsin. As we currently reside on the traditional unceded territory of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, and the Ho-Chunk Nation, we acknowledge these nations, people, and communities both past and present, as well as future generations. This acknowledgement demonstrates our sustained commitment to building authentic relationships and coalitions with all members of these Nations and communities.
