Day 2

Good Morning East high school, it is a great day to be a Red Devil and these are your morning announcements. Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

1 in 4 people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their life.  This blood doesn’t grow on trees; it’s donated from people like you!  The East FFA is hosting their annual Spring  Blood Drive on Wednesday, April 27th, from 8 until 3. If you are age 17 or 16 with parent’s consent, sign up for a time by going to: www.bit.ly/eastblood and type the sponsor code “OT134”  If you have any questions, please contact your blood drive coordinator, Jaedyn LaBrec!  Again: Donate blood, April 27th, save all the lives!  Thank you!

Today is the National Day of Silence, where students across the country come together to use their silence to highlight the harassment and oppression that LGBTQIA+ people face on an alarmingly regular basis.  At this time we will have a minute of silence to recognize this injustice. [ONE MINUTE OF SILENCE] The sixth, and final color of the Pride flag is purple, which symbolizes spirit and reminds us of the resilience of queer students and the importance of being good allies to one another.  Thank you for your participation today.  Any students who would like to Break the Silence after school are invited to make some noise with GSA at the Tennis Court after school!

Attention all senior AVID Students: If you are a senior and were previously in or currently in AVID this year, we are having an AVID meeting on Wednesday April 27th during 1st lunch in room 236. You will be excused from class for the first part of class if you have class then. Don't worry about lunch, AVID will have you covered and we will have food for you. Bring your chromebook because we will be filling out some AVID data while we eat.

Do you want to be a part of the decision making process at East? Do you want to help plan the school events and school spirit events? If so, then the student council  is for you. Stop in the main office and pick up an application and follow the instructions. Make sure to return it to the main office by May 5th.

Congratulations to junior, Huw Griffiths, who was recognized at the WPS Volunteer Awards breakfast yesterday. Huw received the WPS Youth Volunteer of the Year Award - Runner Up that includes a scholarship award. Way to show Red Devil Pride Huw!

Orchestra & Concert Choir Students:  Congrats on your performance at the KI Volunteer Breakfast event yesterday. The event coordinator sent doughnuts as a thank-you - please stop in the choir room today and get a couple doughnuts!

Library: It's Earth Day! Get outside and observe the world you live in. Be inspired to write a poem for the Haiku contest. It's three outstanding lines--the first has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, the third has 5 syllables. We need more student entries for our Haiku contest that ends next week. Did you sign up for the Earth Day Cleanup? We are meeting tomorrow at the school's main entrance at 9 AM. Any questions? Stop in the library.

Word of the Day: Simulacrum, noun, a superficial likeness or representation of something.

These have been your morning announcements

Have a great Earth Day and an amazing learning day.
