Day 1

Good Morning East high school, it is a great day to be a Red Devil and these are your morning announcements. Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Do you like talking to people and finding out what is going on? Do you enjoy writing and secretly desire to see your name in print? Do you want to see what it’s like to be a journalist? Then SCHOOL NEWSPAPER is for you! We need people like YOU to tell the stories of East High. If you are interested, join us for our first informational meeting on Wednesday, September 21st after school in room 306. Email Mrs. Van Ess with any questions.

Are you looking for a new and exciting club to join this year? Do you like business and marketing? Do you like solving real world problems? Are you looking to beef up your resume? Consider joining DECA at East this year. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 20 after school in room 224. If you can't make it, stop in room 224 to see Mrs. V any time. See you then!

HOSA: Interested in joining HOSA- Health Occupation Students of America - Future Health Professionals? We will be having our first meeting Tuesday Sept 20th after school in room 133. During the year HOSA offers several hands-on opportunities and informational sessions. We start the school year off with preparing for our Fall Leadership Conference, guest speakers, service projects, participating in health professionals week and signing up for competitive events. HOSA is a Nationally recognized organization.

Hey Red Devils! Are you in need of some new apparel? Next week we will be pre-selling our new spirit design before school. We have T-shirts, long sleeve T-shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies available in red, black and gray. Grab a form from the main office and drop off the form and payment before school next week. Form is attached HERE as well.

Attention 9th, 10th, and 11th graders: Do you want to be your class representative on homecoming court? This means that you would represent your class at the pep rally, parade, game and at the dance. If so please stop in room 235 this week. You can stop before school or during passing time.

Attention ALL students: Do you need a quiet and focused environment to get some school work done?  Looking for help with your schoolwork and your classroom teacher isn't available? After school tutoring begins TODAY in Room 126. The study session will run until 4:00pm. Stop in today to check it out!

Hey Students: Homecoming is in two weeks, but we have an event that you can help your class in the spirit competition. Instead of PowderPuff we are playing Kickball. So find a team of 10 people, 5 boys and 5 girls, and pick up a sign up form in the office. Games will be Monday September 26th on the football field under the lights. This is a student engagement event so grades and attendance count. That includes tardies.

Do you want to be a part of one of the most successful teams at East. The academic decathlon team is looking for all types of abilities for our team. We need "A" students and we need smart kids that have not tried their hardest. If interested, stop in room 235 on Wednesday September 21st for a brief meeting. The state meet has been held at the Wisconsin Dells and we have gone to state the last 8 years!

Attention NHS members: This is a reminder that we will meet on Tuesday at 7 am in room 309.  Please have the app installed on your cell phone before the meeting.  Any questions, please see Mr. Garay or Mrs. McGrath.

Guest forms for the Homecoming Dance are now available in the Attendance office. The guest dance form must be turned in by September 28th. Any forms turned in after, will be denied.

Are you a techie?  Love to play with knobs and switches?  Then have we got a place for you to join in with!  Starting today and on every Monday after school, from 3:30 to 4:30, the Performance Technologies Club begins to meet in the auditorium!  Everyone is welcome!  And Fine Arts Institute students in Theatre-don't forget to attend!  See you this afternoon!

Pizza Party/Meeting:  Music, Theatre, and Dance students - a reminder that the Pizza Party/Meeting is happening tonight at 6:00pm in the cafeteria.  Please check Google classroom for info.

Join FBLA: Hey! You should join FBLA! FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America.  It is the premier organization for business students with over 250,000 members nationwide. FBLA members compete in a variety of business events at the Regional, State and National Leadership conferences.  We also run the East High School Community Foundation - an investment group that manages a real portfolio of money currently worth over 20 thousand dollars. To join just see Mr. Christy in room 222 and he’ll get you signed up.  He’ll even pay your state and national membership fees so it costs you nothing to join.  Our first meeting is Thursday, October 6th at 7am in room 222. Success starts here. Join FBLA today!

Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read: September 18-September 24, Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States. Observed since 1982, this annual library event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. Here's this week's theme: "Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us."

Each day there will be a trivia question to answer in the library.  Clues at the library display table will help you answer the question.  Each day, a prize will be awarded to one correct winner. Today's prize is a Packer hat! Stop in the library today!

Here is Monday’s trivia question:

What book was the #10 Challenged Book of 2021?

Word of the Day: Haywire, adverb or adjective, being out of order or having gone wrong, emotionally or mentally upset or out of control.
