About Us
The Fine Arts Institute at East High (FAI) offers students the opportunity to deepen their passions for music and the visual arts and study under master teachers and artists for high school credit. Institute students will receive private instruction, develop an artistic portfolio that is reflective of their area of study, and earn academic credit for their private and independent arts study.
The FAI has a student publication called The Strand, which is published once or twice every school year. The Strand includes various artistic works by institute students.

Program Options
The FAI has five strands (program options) for students including Music, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Theatre Arts, and Dance. Learn more about each strand below.
Music
The Music strand is a lesson and performance-based program that will support a student’s development in ability and technique in their chosen musical field. Students can expect to have 27 private lessons with master teachers, maintain a music portfolio, perform in community-based events and in East High productions, participate in one extra-curricular music-based group, enjoy guest artist masterclasses, and learn to work with an accompanist.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts strand is a project-based program where Music students will further explore visual art forms and techniques. Students can expect to attend weekly after-school sessions with a UW-Green Bay artist in residence faculty members, develop their own artwork, attend the annual field trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum, experience the spring Festival of the Arts showcase and Art Show, and help create sets and scenery for East High theatre productions.
Literary Arts
The Literary Arts strand is a creative writing based program where students have the opportunity to focus on their creative writing throughout the year. Students can expect to have frequent meetings during their lunch hour with their instructor, develop their own writing process, enjoy an independent study plan that consists of a creative writing project, participate in a minimum of five writing workshops, publish their creative work in The Strand, and interact with professional writers.
Theatre Arts
The Theatre Arts strand is a performance-based program that will excite and support students as they pursue further development in all things theatre. Students can expect to schedule regular meetings with their instructor, participate in East High productions (as an actor, stagehand, props person, set designer, Performance Tech crew member, and/or stage manager intern), be an active member of the Performance Technologies club, and participate in the end-of-year clean-up and organization.
Dance
The Dance strand is a performance-based program that builds and develops dancer's abilities and provides a place to showcase creativity in their art form. Students can expect to take a dance course two out of three trimesters, learn to properly train and build technique, expand their repertoire and develop versatility, dance in Each High productions, attend all dance masterclasses offered throughout the school year, and participate in the spring dance showcase and Festival of the Arts.
