Radium Girls - Spring PlayGreen Bay East High School is please to announce the Fine Arts Institute at East will be performing Radium Girls as it's spring play.

Radium Girls tells the story of young women who worked as face-dial painters prior to World War I and throughout the post-war era. Science was an exciting time and the freshest name for women in science was Marie Curie. Her revolutionary discovery of polonium and radium brought hope to cancer patients as well as new conveniences like a clock face that actually glowed in the dark! But darkness was not broken well. The significant dangers of radium were tragically ignored by corporate leaders and many young women who worked with radium directly, were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation.

Ultimately, many of these young women did not live the hoped for future they desired. Seeking support for medical needs, these women had to fight for recognition and financial support after serious health issues surfaced. This story’s tragedy created the groundwork that led to Occupational Health and Safety Act that employees benefit from today!
